In addition to being a botanical artist who paints plants through observation of the natural environment, she also studies plant diversity at university. She is also interested in traditional Japanese crops and horticultural plants, and paints them while interacting with farmers, growers, or conservation activists.

Miki Horiguchi graduated from Women's College of Art and Design Department of Textile Design. She is a fellow member of the Society of Botanical Artists after she completed the Distance Learning Diploma Course in 2021 with distinction. She was awarded 3 prizes in the Botanical Illustration Competition at the National Museum of Nature and Science Tsukuba Botanical Garden in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Her works were exhibited not only in Japan but also overseas such as South Korea, Australia, Spain. While she has classes of botanical painting at colleges and education centers, she started to study the diversity of plants at Tokyo University Of Agriculture from 2023, and especially researching on ginger family.
